Introducing Premodern Weekly Tournaments!
Hello everyone! Pascal Maynard writing. I am very excited to finally reveal that we will be hosting weekly Premodern tournaments starting Wednesday next week (July 22nd). Register NOW!

What is ''Premodern'' you ask?

''Premodern is a community-created constructed format consisting of the sets from Fourth Edition to Scourge. The card pool thus roughly spans the period inbetween the formats 93/94 and Modern. A rule of thumb for the card pool is: all cards with the old frame printed between 1995 and 2003, which were standard legal at some point during this period.

An underlying idea is that the format should be a home for iconic and fun cards that don't see play in other formats—either because their relative power level has withered over time, or because they are not tournament legal due to their interactions with newer cards (e.g. Survival of the Fittest and Vengevine in Legacy). In line with this idea, some cards that are dominant in other formats are banned in Premodern (e.g. Brainstorm and Force of Will) in order to leave room for other cards to prosper, and to make the format distinct from others.''

- Martin Berlin, Premodern Creator

I stumbled across that format myself about a year ago and I instantly fell in love because it is such a throwback to the old Extended format that was played when I started playing Magic.

If you are someone who enjoys Set Roulette, this should be a great weekly adventure for you. I mean ... Look at these decks.

I am personally a bit worried that a non-rotating format that never gets any new cards will become solved at some point, but this format has existed for 8 years now and it does not seem to be the case. Will Mythic Society players ruin the format by figuring out a broken deck? I kind of hope not, but on the other end, that would be a great accomplishment!

With that said, I just wanted to put out there that this will probably get me to finally play some Magic in my busy schedule ... I'll see you next week!
